Tis the season in Minnesota to jump into “the art of neighboring” (a phrase we have borrowed from a book by the same title written by Jay Pathak and Dave Runyon). Neighbors are outside more because it’s not frigid and there are more social opportunities to get to know people.
The reality is that it’s also a very busy season for most of us. It’s the half way mark for many people when it comes to “summer” and if you have not been able to do much neighboring, THERE IS STILL TIME!
Here are some ways you can still practice the Art of Neighboring – and they don’t need to be scary!
1. We gave out “Art of Neighboring” bags with a few easy ways to step into getting to know your neighbors. Here is a digital copy if you didn’t get one: CLICK TO DOWNLOAD DIGITAL COPY
2. Open Streets Northeast is Sunday, August 5th – some streets in Northeast will close down so people can have a massive block party of sorts. Even if you don’t live in Northeast, this is a great way to get to know the community we serve as a church. Check it out here: OPEN STREETS
3. National Night Out is Tuesday, August 7th – This is a nation-wide movement of block parties. It’s so massive that chances are, there is one near you! Search online to find it and join in! It’s a great way to meet new neighbors! Read more here: NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
4. Mill City Summer Meet Ups – We have had opportunities to connect around the neighborhood all summer and there are more to come! Check out the list here: MILL CITY SUMMER MEET UPS
There is still a lot of summer left to give neighboring a try or to take your next step!
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” -Jesus
